Raiden - Lightning Bolt Action by effektdmentality Raiden - Lightning Bolt Action by effektdmentality
From my photoshoot with Eurobeat Kasumi at San Diego Comic Con 2011. This was taken the morning before the Kojima/MGS autograph signing, where I got my Raiden helm signed! :D

Since the helmet is now autographed by Hideo, Yoji, and Yumi, I'm pretty much retiring Raiden. I may pull him out of my cosplay closet in the future (I'd make a new helmet to wear for sure), but for now, SDCC was Raiden's last big outing.

EDIT: Color adjustment by me

You can find the rest of the shoot here: [link]

This is almost all 6mm craft foam for the armor, glued to a spandex suit. The armor pieces were cut out, formed into curved shapes using heat, and glued to the suit. The best advice I can give is to get lots of reference and look up tutorials on how to make craft foam armor.

My MGS4 headset was foam posterboard, the Revengeance headset was 6mm craft foam. I would use the craft foam since it's more flexible/comfortable. The chin of MGS4 was all foam posterboard, and then I connect the tops using a headband. I wore my wig over it so you would never see the headband:

Foam was glued to the spandex using E6000 adhesive. I drew the templates for the armor myself, I didn't find it online.

I told you, I hand drew my templates from looking at reference. I don't have digital copies. Even if I did, I would be hesitant to send them out. I put a lot of my own hours into finding the reference, studying it, and drawing and redrawing patterns to fit. Sorry, but you're gonna have to do your own work.

This is just fantastic... I hope you realize how much of a badass you are. Mind if I bother you about how you did it? I'm making this costume and have run into a few snags. I can't figure out how anyone has attached the tan (sort of armor?) pieces to the white suit. I'm also wondering how you made your now signed helmet. I am quite jealous you got those autographs. I'm sure people have asked you a million times but it would be a huge help to get some advice. Your cosplay has got to be the best I've seen thus far.

This is my page on cosplay.com that details the makings of the suit, all of the specs and materials are listed there:

To answer your more immediate questions:
- The tan armor is craft foam, attached to the suit with either hot glue or E6000 glue (which is super strong yet also flexible). Be sure to stretch the fabric of the bodysuit over a form BEFORE gluing the armor on, since if you don't stretch the fabric of the suit before gluing, there won't be any slack when you put it on, causing the foam to tear off.
- The helmet is foamcore posterboard, hot glued together. The "LEDS" are small red translucent BBs. The visor is a portion of a plastic fishbowl I found at Petsmart for $8.

I cannot thank you enough for this. I feel like I've been handed a genius' test and told I can copy off of it. Thank you a million times over!

Ah, I wanted to go to that con, but of course, it's waaay too far. D:
Great cosplay! Raiden's probably one of the hardest characters to cosplay because his outfit is really complicated to make. ^.^
